According to legends, once upon a time there was a King named Mahijit, ruler of Mahishmati kingdom. He had no children and hence he always used to worry a lot about what will happen to his empire after his death.
He tried everything to find a solution of his problem, but nothing happened.
One day he came across sage Lomesh and asked him for a solution for his problem. Sage Lomesh told King Mahijit that he did not have any child due to sins committed by him in his previous births. Sage advised the king and the Queen to observe Shravana Putrada Ekadashi vrata to get rid of all their past sins and to get Lord Vishnu’s blessings to have a child.
