Parivartini Ekadashi Story / Vrat Katha :
The story of Parivartini Ekadashi is all about the Vamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu and killing of demon king Mahabali.
According to legends, in the tretayuga, there was a powerful king Bali. He was a true devotee of Lord Vishnu. He defeated Lord Indra and had conquered the entire world. Lord Indra along with all other deva’s and great sages came to Lord Vishnu seeking for help. Lord Vishnu decided to help them.
Lord Vishnu appeared as a dwarf brahmana (his fifth incarnation of Lord Vamana) in front of King Bali and asked him form alms in form of Land. He pleaded for just 3 feet land space. Bali agreed and soon the body of dwarf brahmana (Lord Vamana) began to expand into a gigantic transcendental form and covered the entire earth with his one step and then covered all the heavenly planets with the second step. He then lifted King Bali by his hand and asked him where shall i place my foot now to measure the third step of land you promised to give me.
Upon hearing this, King Bali bowed down in humility and offered his head to place the third step. Lord Vamana placed his foot on Bali’s head and sent him all the way to Patalaloka. Lord Vamana was please with King Bali’s righteousness and lived with him.
Thereafter on Parivartini Ekadasi, King Bali installed a deity form of Lord Vishnu in his residence.
Lord Vishnu then says that one who fasts on this Ekadashi day gets rid of all his sins.
