Kamada Ekadashi Story / Vrat Katha :
According to legends, once upon a time there was a gandharva couple, Lalit and his wife Lalita. They lived in the city of Ratnapura which was ruled by King Pundarika. Lalit was a famed singer and wife Lalita was renowned dance. Both always used to perform together in the court of the king.
One day, kings asked Lalit for a solo performance. During this performance, Lalit’s attention fluttered from the song to his wife, who was absent from the court. As a result, he made some mistakes in his performance.
One of the native of the king’s court noticed this mistake and complained to the king about it saying that Lalit considered his wife more important than his master, the king. This annoyed the king and he cursed Lalit due to which he became a giant demon.
Now Lalit in the form of monstrous demon wandered in the jungle along with his wife Lalita in search of help so that he can regain in original human form.
While wandering around the Vindhyachal Hills, the couple came across the ashram of sage Shringi. Paying her respects to the sage, the couple pleased to him to provide a solution to their problem. Sage Shrinig advised the couple to observe Kamada Ekadashi vrata.
The couple observed the fast of Kamada Ekadashi with great devotion and worshipped Lord Krishna – avatar of Lord Vishnu. As a result, Lalit got free from Kings curse and regained his original human form.
After this incidence, the Kamada Ekadashi Vrata became popular in the region.
