Apara Ekadashi Story / Vrat Katha :
According to legends, once upon a time there were two brothers, Mahidhvaj and Bharajdhvaj. Mahidhvaja was very noble person while his brother Bharajdhvaj was very cruel, unjust and wicked. He always hated his brother Mahidhvaj and hence one night he killed him and buried him under a peepal tree. His cruelty did not end there, he kept striking violently at the peepal tree as well.
One day sage Dhumya passed through the region and came to know about Bharajdhvaj and his deeds. He reminded Bharajdhvaj of his ill-deeds, its consequences and told him to correct himself. Soon Bharajdhvaj relaized his mistakes and pleaded to the sage to give him a solution to correct himself and to get rid of all his sins.
Sage Dhumya advised him to observe Apara Ekadashi vrata, which he observed with great devotion and soon he became a noble person just like his brother.
Since then, people of the region started observing Apara Ekadashi vrata.
Apara Ekadashi Puja Vidhi :
The Puja Vidhi performed during Apara Ekadashi is similar to that followed during other Ekadashi’s.
